OK trying to pick a favourite bar/club in Amsterdam is almost impossible. There’s so many and they are all so different. But here are some places we always make a point of stopping by.

Melkweg

Just off Leidseplein, Melkweg is the Dam’s best-known venue. It used to be a milking factory (the name means The Milky Way in Dutch). We recommend a visit because, it’s kind of different in that it’s run by a not-for-profit group of artists. Hippy and cool, it’s got five rooms where you’ll always something different going on, including theatre, dance, films, art installation and photography exhibitions. There’s a quirky café bar at the back and a cosy little cinema in the attic too.

The Sugar Factory

A less mainstream venue near the Leidseplein, The Sugar Factory is a bit of a hidden gem that only those in the know (like us), will know about. Expect an intriguing mix of theatre, art and performance with the best music, from local live bands to international DJs..

Smokeys

If you want to party, this is the place. International DJs play to crowds from all over the world. It sometimes feels like you’re at the biggest party on the planet. It’s right on Rembrandt Plein. You can’t miss it. So don’t miss it. Other favourites include Chicago Social Club, just off Leidseplein and Coco’s Outback on Rembrandt Square. Try them all. You may as well.
